Why the Gilmore Girls Revival Was a Disappointment to Me

Those four words. Those four stupid words.

It could have ended any other way and I would be satisfied. Rory could have announced she liked hentai. Rory could have announced she was going back to school. Any. Other. Thing.

Rory is pregnant. Rory. The girl who was taught about safe sex, the girl who never showed any interest in kids, and the girl who didn't even know how to babysit Paris's kids.

Stars Hollow must not have access to birth control with how many women during the show's course get pregnant. I mean, I'm surprised Lane's mom didn't squirt out another.

I get it. The whole message of the show is basically, "If you don't like your family, make a new one!" I mean, that's what they were basically saying with Lorelei and Lane. They were always kept under their mothers' control, so they fell in love too quickly and ended knocked up. Then their life became sunshine and rainbows, because kids solve everything! /s

You know what pisses me off the most about this stupid fucking show? The way they portray motherhood. No, not every child is going to be a gift like Rory Gilmore. Raising a child isn't easy! Sure, it may feel rewarding when your child is graduating from high school with a 3.2 GPA when you got knocked up at 16. But you should have some life goals for yourself.

Not everyone is meant to be a mother. Not everyone is meant to be a father.

So yes, while I don't think Rory is following in her mother's footsteps, I think that the idea that everything is a circle is fucking stupid. When is someone going to leave Stars Hollow forever? When is someone going to never look back from that small town and go become a movie star? When is someone going to go to the stars?!

But nope.

All women ever do in life is date silly boys and eventually get knocked up. If you don't know what to do with a character, knock 'em up. That will provide drama. If you don't know what to do with your college-educated, independent female characters, get them knocked up and make them leave their partner.

Yes, I am a bit bitter that the woman who made a series praised by feminists couldn't write a better ending than the weird guy who thought making Lorelei and Chris marry could.

Guess what I've been watching?

I have had a crappy day so please excuse any of my excess cursing and whatever else I might say in this post that might strike you the wrong way.

So sometimes when I'm between writing blog posts and doing college work, I actually watch YouTube let's plays. My favorite YouTuber is KPopp, because she's a lot different from the other YouTubers out there. I mean, she's not really girly and she isn't afraid to say some uncensored shit. Which is cool, you know?

So, naturally, when she uploaded Until Dawn gameplay I watched it.

I mean, I hate horror films for the same reasons I hate scifi ones. The characters are too predictable and similar. Which makes the plot incredibly predictable. And honestly, if I'm expecting to be scared, that's all I'm going to think about in the movie.

I think the thing I like about YouTube commentary is that it can make otherwise lackluster gameplay into a whole new thing enjoyable to watch. Like The Sims. Talented commentators can make the boring, average, everyday lives of their Sims into a whole new thing if they're good at it.

So guess who is in Until Dawn? No, not Hayden! And not Amanda from Shameless! I didn't even recognize Nichole Bloom until KPopp pointed it out.

The person I liked the most at first was Josh. He just... he seemed interesting to me.

I've been on the Internet long enough not to be affected by the general stupidity of YouTube comments so I went to see what people were saying. Someone pointed out that the actor who portrayed/voiced Josh (Rami Malek) had a major role on a show called Mr Robot.

Now, as much as I hated that fucking title, I was willing to give it a chance. I mean, I've watched a hell of a lot of television. I hate some and I love some. I hated The Riches but loved Shameless. Hated Scandal but loved How to Get Away with Murder. You win some and you lose some.

I have to say that I absolutely love Mr Robot. It feels very raw to me. I love how talented Rami is in it. It's the kind of acting that gives you chills. It's a breathtaking experience to watch every scene and just watching this clip had me sold. It felt like I was watching the future expectations of all television series.

I'm about five episodes in and I know some major shit goes down. It's okay, I still watched every episode of HTGAWM even after knowing every detail of what happens. Things happen.

Plus, in Mr Robot, Elliot saved the dog! He saved Flipper! Hooray!

I even took some time to read what others were saying about it (sorry, I'm not a hacker or anything) and it seems like most of them agree that everything was researched well and executed well. So bonus points for accuracy!

Time to get back to watching it instead of, um, focusing on my precalc marks...

Be Your Own Hero

You know what I hate about most modern young adult stories? The fact that almost all of them end with some girl finding love and that's the be all, end all of it. What about relationship struggles? What about all those problems she had? So, you're telling me, the day you get a boyfriend, all of your family problems, mental illnesses, friend problems, and all the other chaos in your life just magically goes away?

Okay, I will admit that when I was struggling, I thought this too. But I would love to go back and tell myself that it's better to love yourself before anyone else, because you're going to be the person you're stuck with for the rest of your life.

So much of our lives are spent looking for the one when we're too young to really know who is the one, so we miss out on other stuff far more important than significant others. I mean, if you find someone you like and they like you back, date them, but don't think that will 'fix' you. You're not broken, you're just someone who has conflicts and needs to solve them in whatever manner seems fit.

..And I sound old. Oh well, I'm secretly one of those really old grandpas that screams at those meddling kids messing with my garden I take five hours on every single day. I mean, who didn't teach those kids better? It's ridiculous.

Anyways, you'll find someone. You'll find someone to be with, and they'll want to be with you, too. Just don't think that is the reason why you have a mental illness or things are going wrong in your life.

You're wonderful, and don't let not being in a relationship make you think otherwise.

Another Famous..

So it's 5 am, I'm thinking about Gilmore Girls and how underrated Paris Geller was, and feeling all sad and stuff. So, blog post?

I feel you, I really do.

First off, sorry about the domain change. I just thought it shouldn't be the same as my Tumblr blog. Plus, it was too long for my tastes. So I'm hoping it was too long for your tastes, too! If not, truly sorry.

So, I personally believe that either my readers belong to two groups. The people who either want to murder me or people who are basically superheros. If you want to murder me, here's a list of a playlist I made when I was 13 or 14 on YouTube which will totally make you want to murder me even more than you already do. I ask to be murdered to you playing one of the videos on there.

To all the superheroes: you go! You seriously got your sh*t together and I love you! I also love the people who want to murder me, unless you're that person who said it on Tumblr. I get it, you don't like me. Sometimes I used to not like me. But now I work hard so I do.

I guess I'm experiencing a, "I fuck shit up with others and I know things would be better if I didn't, so I wish I couldn't" type of mood right now and it's killing me. It's absolutely killing me more than the murderers reading this post right now probably want to.

I guess I like to test limits with people until they leave. Which is screwed up, but oh well, I guess. It's just a part of.. me. I have a few close friends that I would never do this to (and I'm sure they know who they are) and I'm glad the only thing they judge me for is staying up until the sun rises rewatching television shows.

And I'm amazed at the murderers and superheroes who don't do that. I'm amazed that there's people out there who can keep people who aren't exactly good friends in their social group for more than a year. I just.. I suck. I suck at not asking you how you feel. I'm not good at being there for you, but it's okay, because you're not good at being there for me, either.

You, though, reader? You're awesome. You're like, spouse-material, I'm sure. Unless you're that murderer.

I realize I need sleep. Fuck.

Growing Comfortable

I think comfort is one of the necessities to living a happy life.

Kind of like how it's necessary to have images to put in blog posts, we need comfort to be content and happy with ourselves. This includes being comfortable with our bodies, friends, partners, and our mind. We have to get comfortable with ourselves.

I realized this just a year ago that I had to get comfortable with who I am as a person and make sure I'm around people who made me feel comfortable or else I wasn't going to make it. I'm kind of happy I got to that point of revelation with myself.

I mean, sometimes, I have my off days, but life is a learning process. One where you need to take yourself back from society's standards that tell you you're not good enough.

Today, I think you should start a mission. The mission to never apologize for who you are. The mission to realize that your flaws are alright to have. The mission for never apologizing for your body. The mission to learn that it's okay to love, be hurt, be sad, and be an actual human being. The mission to live life to the fullest.

You, my friend, deserve to live comfortably. You deserve to live a life without feeling shameful for the hair on your body, the condition of the clothes on your back, your own feelings about anything, (as long as they're not hurting anyone) or any scars on your body. I believe you are a perfectly fine individual who deserves to go through life without judgement from society.

See, society places us in boxes when there's no need to be boxes. There needs to be freedom to be comfortable. Boxes aren't comfortable. Unless you're a cat. Then they are perfect, because anything that involves cats is perfect. Obviously.

We should be able to live our lives in comfort of who we are. We should be accepting of who we are more than we should think about how much we hate ourselves. That's no way to live. So we should start by caring about ourselves more and listening to what we think instead of shutting ourselves off.

We are important.

We deserve to make the step to growing comfortable with ourselves.
